Robot Invasion

There have been an increasing number of stories about how robots are permeating our daily lives. We’re still a far ways away from living like the Jetsons, but check out these latest robots for how they can entertain and serve you. Pretty soon, we won’t have to do anything ourselves, such as playing soccer, playing gamelan drums, and solving that pesky Rubik’s Cube.

But what’s the one thing that’s missing from our daily lives where robots can truly help?

Serving us Ramen!!!

It might not be all fun and games though, what with Superfast Killer Terminator hands and Robot Dinosaurs on the loose.

Celebrating Apollo 11, 40 Years Later

The Big Picture has posted an incredible gallery of pictures from the Apollo 11 mission that landed mankind on the moon for the first time.

This is my favorite:

After lifting off from the Moon, Eagle approaches the Command Module during rendezvous. Astronaut Michael Collins, who remained on board the Command Module for the entire trip, remembers taking this photograph: “Little by little, they grew closer, steady, as if on rails, and I thought ‘What a beautiful sight,’one that had to be recorded. As I reached for my Hasselblad, suddenly the Earth popped up over the horizon, directly behind Eagle. I could not have staged it any better, but the alignment was not of my doing, just a happy coincidence. I suspect a lot of good photography is like that, some serendipitous happenstance beyond the control of the photographer. But at any rate, as I clicked away, I realized that for the first time, in one frame, appeared three billion earthlings, two explorers, and one moon. The photographer, of course, was discreetly out of view.”

The Big Picture posted a series of images from the launch of Atlantis and their rendezvous with the Hubble telescope on Monday, May 11, 2009. Here are a few of my favorites. But there are several, and all are excellent. Click here to see the rest.
